My life day to day
Riesling Update
Over the weekend Glen and I had to check the Riesling that we are in the process of making. It has been fermenting for the last two weeks.
The yeast was very active during the fermentation process. They set up camp and partied hard.
Since the yeast was so good at partying, the wine tested excellently. Now, time to kill the yeast, get the gas out of the wine and get it ready for bottling.
See…..the wine, it was gassy.
This was the reserve bag of riesling, which was as thick as syrup, that we put in so that while the wine clears it also sweetens.
Two more weeks and we should be good to go on bottling.
Enjoyed the Weekend
Our weather has been so weird. We actually got snow in May. But, the snow is gone and the temps are on the rise again. Glen and I had yesterday off together. We were pretty lazy the first half of the day. However, by the afternoon we ventured outside with the hounds and went mushroom hunting.
There are also wild strawberries growing…..can’t wait for them to grow and ripen!
Other signs of spring….
We finished our day with a nice walk on the MoPac trail with the hounds. It was a good day!
Got it just in time
We got our front porch just in the nick of time….it is raining again.
I can’t wait to get the patio table and chairs out there and some pretty potted flowering plants. It has to get warm and stay warm though. The weather just isn’t cooperating.
Self Kenneling
Lucy is such a smart girl. She now goes and gets in her kennel when she sees me getting ready for work. I no longer have to bribe her to get in…..or maybe Petey, who already did this, rubbed off on her.
Spooning
Part of our weekend was gray, chilly and rainy. These weather conditions make Petey and Lucy lazy slugs.
Lila’s blood test results
My bird vet (Dr Julie Burge) called me with Lila’s blood test results. Naturally I was at work so I got all this from voicemail. The vet was very happy with her white blood count. Normal is between 6,000 and 11,000. Lila’s is at 9,000…. Yay!! *\o/* However, the vet said her heterofils were slightly elevated. Huh? Hello Google, what the heck is a heterofil??? I read a few things and I still have no clue. The voicemail continued with her saying it was probably just her fighting some minor infection and we shouldn’t worry about it since her white blood count was so good, since 6 months ago it was up to 45,000.
Lila: Next vet visit I only want my talons trimmed and maybe a little taken off my wings. No more needles.
