Eva Laid An Egg

Glen and I have had to tolerate Eva, our Umbrella Cockatoo, who has been more than a little amorous for the last month or so.  And when I say she has been amorous…..I mean she has been a total pervert.  Well, yesterday we found an unexpected surprise in Eva’s cage.

This was the first time she had laid an egg.  Thankfully she acted like nothing out of the ordinary had occurred so we were able to take the broken egg out of her cage without any issues.  I am hoping she won’t lay any more for quite a while. 

Rescheduled Match up

I posted a while back that I was taking Lila to the vet.  Well, it snowed so I decided not to drive all the way to Grandview in the snow with a sick bird.  Yesterday was the rescheduled match up of Lila vs the vet.

Lila:  I have been here before, and I know this is not going to be a good time.

This is something I am totally willing to pay someone to do for me.  Lila is such a vicious biter that it takes true professionals to clip her talons.  She also had some blood drawn because she is a sickly girl.  She tested positive for avian bornavirus last vet visit, but the vet thinks it may be a false positive.  However, that being said…..we have no idea why Lila is sick.  I will let you all know what the results are when I get them.

It’s Becoming A Habit

Every day when I sit down in the recliner to get caught up on my internet surfing, Lilly snuggles up next to me, plants her face into the arm of the recliner and takes a nap.

Next up….Riesling

After bottling the Pinot Noir, we got started on making the Riesling.

So far, it is the same process as before. 

The package of bentonite that is added to 4 cups of hot water.

Looks pretty nasty before it is dissolved, huh?

Just keep stirring, just keep stirring….It has be nice and dissolved before the juice is added.

Adding the concentrated juice along with distilled water to get it to the 23 liter mark.   We did have a small sample of the juice.  It was OMG good!

Then we tested its gravity.  It tested 1.1 in the dessert wine.

Adding yeast to the party.  Those yeast…..they sure know how to party 😉

Bottling Day

Yesterday was the day to bottle our pinot noir.  First we had to clean a bunch of bottles.

Then we had  to siphon the wine from the carboy to the bottling bucket.

They will need to stand upright for 3 to 4 days. Then we can lay them down on their sides and they can age in the bottle until it is party time in September.
