Introducing a new toy

We were given another fun fishing pole for Lilly.  Naturally she was scared of it at first.

Curiosity always gets the best of her though.

Eventually she was playing with it like a long lost friend.

Girls Christmas Day Out

Yesterday my good friends Ila, Vickie and I got to have our annual Christmas outing.  This year we went to Brownes Irish Market in the Westport area of Kansas City.

I had the reuben sandwich and a bowl of potato soup.  It was very very yummy.

I also had a nice Irish hard cider to go along with it.

Afterwards we were trying to decide what to do and we decided to head to Houlihan’s restaurant and have a beverage while we waited for the sun to set so we could go look at some Christmas lights. 

Ila ordered an x rated flirtini, I had a skinny cosmopolitan, and Miss Vickie had a liter pitcher of long island iced tea.  They were all very tastey.

When my buzz wore off and the sun had set we headed out to Longview’s Christmas in the Park.

It is a wonderful tradition that we have and I enjoy it every single year.

Big Year

Big Year is the title of a movie I just watched.  I has Steve Martin, Jack Black, Owen Wilson and a bunch of other wonderful actors in it.  It is about a competition among birders to see who can see or hear the largest number of birds in one year.  Even if you aren’t that into birds or birding, it is a good heartfelt movie, and I highly recommend it.

In the spirit of that movie, here are two birds in my birdbath….a male cardinal and a male dark eyed junko.

Sunday Brunch

Sunday, Glen and I finally had some time together….before I had to go to work.  Since we love cooking together we decided to try out a new recipe, that we only sort of followed.  We made baked cheddar eggs and potatoes, courtesy of Taste of Home magazine. 

First we sauteed onion, garlic and jalapeno pepper in some olive oil.  Then we added frozen hash-browns and cooked them until they were almost done.

Then we stirred in some bacon…..because bacon make everything better!

We made little pockets in the hash-browns and cracked the eggs into them.

We put the whole thing in the oven and baked it for about 10 minutes when we then put cheese on top and put it back in the oven to melt.

We finished it off with fresh chopped tomato, green onion and cilatro.  We baked it a little too long because the yolks were hard, but it didn’t matter, it was still fantastic.
