Avalanche Lake, Glacier National Park
Our fifth day at Glacier National Park, (09/23/26), we hiked the Avalanche Lake Trail. This trail is an out and back trail, with a 705-foot elevation gain, so a relatively easy hike. We opted for this trail because I woke up and realized I had come down with what I was hoping was only a head cold. My husband, Glen, thought we should stay at the resort and rest, but I insisted the park wasn’t going to see itself. I really wanted to get out and see as much of the park as possible.

It was a good day of hiking, and we got in 7.61 miles. This was our last day of hiking because the next day I felt much worse, so we decided to take it easy and stay in our condo. We were disappointed because we had set a goal to hike 10 or more miles a day and the last 3 days were spent cooped up with me downing cold medicine, hot green tea, and electrolytes. We hope to return to Glacier National Park. It is stunningly beautiful and we want to hike and experience more of it.
