Today we drove over to the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge. It was on my list of things to see while we were here. We then hiked the trail that runs along the rim from the bridge. It was a nice flat hike 🙂

Today Glen and I hiked. It started out easy enough on the Rinconada Trail. Then we opted to take the Little Arsenic Trail which went down to the Rio Grande River. Going down was the easy part. Going back up to the rim….I now know that if I end up in hell, my eternity will be spent hiking up switch backs lugging a ruck sack. We did manage to get some very nice pictures.
We spotted a solitary Indian Paint Brush, so naturally I had to take it’s picture.

Obligatory selfie….I still look like a happy camper so we hadn’t started the horrible ascent.
The only wildlife we saw besides a bunch of circling buzzards was this guy.
We have no idea what typed of plant this is, but we thought it very interesting looking.
Yesterday, I met up with a friend and we went to Burr Oak Woods Nature Center to walk the trails. This fella greeted us as we started our trek.
While looking up information on this turtle I discovered that the three toed box turtle is the official reptile for the state of Missouri.
Turns out the little skinny stray kitty I brought in the house the other day isn’t the only stray we have. Turns out there is another kitty that is lurking in the tree line watching us. This one looks older and healthier. It is also pretty wild and will not let us near it. We will continue to put out extra food and water for it.
Our neighbors rescue horses, clydesdale’s to be specific. They then decided to breed them. Their babies are so darned cute! Someday I will have a more powerful lens to get a more close up picture.
Some critter got run over in front of our driveway and the turkey vultures showed up to clean up the remains.
Being mindful that he doesn’t get run over.
Taking a quick bite….
While others were checking things out from above.
Last fall my mother decided to tear out all of her iris bulbs….as in she no longer wanted any. These bulbs are originally from my grandmother, so I couldn’t let them all get trashed.
I was excited to see that some yellow bloomed.
Taffy says hurry up because you smell so pretty when you are in full bloom.
Taffy was very, very interested in something on the other side of the fence this morning. She wouldn’t budge from this spot and kept barking and digging. I went out to see what the fascination was, only to find absolutely nothing of interest. Time went on and she kept carrying on, so I decided to take a closer look outside the fence.
I moved some leaves and fluff and found these little guys. Some dumb bunny decided to nest right by the fence. I covered them back up and tried to come up with a plan to keep the dogs from tunneling out of the yard.
This probably isn’t going to work, but it was the best I could come up with on the spur of the moment. Now Taffy is pacing from one end of the tarp to the other.
Today my good friend, Vickie and I went for a nice long walk on the newly open Rock Island Trail.
Of course Sadie had to help me put on my hiking boots.
Naturally the litterbugs have made it to the trail and I am hoping that the state will splurge for some better signs in the near future.
Today was a dreary day, as it has been for over a week. However, the temps were in the 50’s so can’t really complain.
We didn’t see any deer, but did see the tracks they left behind.
This was the weirdest thing we saw while on our walk. Not sure if someone buried Fluffy out here or what. In all it was a good walk. We got in 4.57 miles. Will definitely need to bring the dogs out in the near future for a nice long walk to wear them out.
Like Mother Teresa, only better.
