Very Cold Sunset

Saturday was opening day of deer season.  While Glen was out sitting in his deer stand, he took a few pictures of the sunset.

Changing Colors

Within the span of just a few minutes the colors of the rising sun change drastically.

Acorn

While Glen and I were at Knob Noster State Park hiking the trails we saw lots of neat things.  There were a lot of oak trees that have dropped a lot of acorns.  This one particular acorn caught our eye.  It was cracked open so we could see the nut inside, which was reddish in color.  I have never seen an acorn with red meat and I am not able to find anywhere on the “all knowing internet” as to why it would be red.  We did get a lot of rain last week and maybe it had been soaking in some muddy water and the tannins in the nut made it turn red…..that is my best guess.

Bunches of Berries

Image

Our mulberry tree is completely covered with berries.  So far only a few have ripened, but it is going to be a bumper crop.

Glen was helping himself to some for an after dinner dessert.

However, the price for eating tasty mulberries are purple stained fingers.

The Twist

Since it has warmed up some we decided to take a stroll in the timber behind our house where we came across this twisty tree.

Washed Out

Glen went out hiking with a friend and took some pictures of an unfortunate tree facing adversity.  It was rooted into the dike of a pond, and as you can see, the pond washed out under the tree.

Only one

This fall has really been a beautiful one with all the trees changing colors.  Only one shrub in our front yard got into the swing of things.

Image

Sadly, it won’t be long before all the leaves are on the ground and the trees/shrubs are bare.  I love autumn…..not looking forward to winter.  :-\

A Note From Abroad

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sailaway from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” ~ Mark Twain
