Wurstfest in Hermann, Mo

Yesterday Glen and I went to Hermann for their annual Wurstfest.  Many local and surrounding state sausage makers compete for the best bratwurst, sausage, jerky, braunschweiger and sommer sausage.  For a small fee we got to sample all of them.  We also toured three wineries Stone Hill, Hermannhof and Dierberg Star Lane.  To end our day we visited the Tin Mill Brewery and sampled their beer.

Lots and lots of wine at Stone Hill.

No visit to a town settled by German immigrants would be complete without accordion music.

We had a great day and got to bring home lots of handmade sausages and jerky, wine and beer.  Hermann is a quaint little town and I would highly recommend visiting there if you have the opportunity.

Bottling Gewurztraminer

Our most recent wine making was a batch of Gewurztraminer.  It is a nice slightly sweet white wine that pairs well with spicy food.  Can’t wait for it to age so we can cook up some nice spicy Thai food to pair it with.

Birthday Beverages

Last Friday was Glen’s 40th birthday.  We played it pretty low key.  We went to his moms house and ate lasagna until we thought we would pop.  The downer was he bought a nice stout beer for himself but was too full to drink any of it.   However, he was able to enjoy it Saturday evening….a good way to prolong your birthday.

I did sample the beer, and it was pretty tasty.  However, I stuck with the wine.  I enjoyed a nice glass of Malbec.

A Note From Abroad
